World Champion Kim Yu-na will be performing with Michelle Kwan, one of the greatest women figure skaters of all time, in an ice show in Seoul next month. Kim's management agency IB Sports said Thursday the Samsung Anycall Hauzen Ice All Stars at the Olympic Park from Aug. 14 to 16 will bring the current superstar and the legend together.
Kwan dominated the 1990s, winning five World Championships and nine U.S. Championships. She won silver and bronze medals in the 1998 Nagano Olympics and the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics. She was on the U.S. national team to the 2006 Turin Olympics but had to withdraw due to injuries.
After what seems to be her last shot at the Olympic gold slipped away from her, Kwan disappeared from international competitions, but she has never officially declared retirement.
Still loved by figure skating fans worldwide, Kwan probably boasts the largest fan base among figure skaters for her skating skills as well as artistic expression. During the 2009 World Championships in Los Angeles in March, Kwan appeared as a TV commentator and praised Kim's skating.
A press release quotes Kim as saying, "Kwan has been my idol from the childhood, and I have so much respect for her. It's a big honor to skate in the same ice show with her in Korea." Kwan said she is excited and happy to be on a special stage. She is preparing two gala programs for the show, IB Sports said.
