The Girl Who Stopped Growing

How old is the girl on the left? Surprisingly, she turned 16 in January this year. Brooke Greenberg from Baltimore, Maryland in the U.S. stopped growing when she was six months old. Now she is only 76.2 cm tall and weighs 7.3 kg. Although she cannot speak, she reacts like a girl at puberty, her family says. Nobody knows why she does not grow any more.

Brooke has been under growth hormone treatment but without avail. She becomes unconscious and suffers from diseases whose causes are unknown. By studying her case, experts seek to find out clues to the secret of human aging.

The girl on the right is Brooke's sister, three years younger than her.
