Eleven people were diagnosed as having the H1N1 influenza virus in Korea, bringing the total to 21. Eight of the newly confirmed patients are foreign English teachers who had been staying at the same apartment building in Seoul as six patients that were confirmed on Saturday.
Health authorities are carrying out in-depth testing on about 50 other teachers who also were in the building so the number of confirmed patients is likely to increase as one of them is already showing flu-like symptoms. But fortunately they have not yet started teaching, so no students have made direct contact with them. The building has about 350 small apartments and the residents have been advised to stay in and report any symptoms.
On top of that three children have also been reported as confirmed patients. They flew from New York on Sunday morning with their Korean parents and have been quarantined as they showed signs of fever at the airport.
