An estate agent is living in the luxury apartment former president Roh Moo-hyun's daughter Jeong-yeon bought in New Jersey, locals said Thursday. The agent earlier brokered her purchase of the apartment in Hudson Club, an upscale apartment complex in West New York, New Jersey.
A Hudson Club executive said apartment no. 400 on the fourth floor, which cost US$1.6 million when Roh's daughter signed the purchase contract in May 2007, has been leased to the estate agent for a monthly rent of $5,900, or approximately W7.5 million. It is the only leased apartment in the complex.
According to prosecutors, the wealthy Roh Moo-hyun supporter at the center of a bribery scandal, Park Yeon-cha, sent $400,000 to a U.S. bank account belonging to the estate agent in September 2007. The bank account number was given to Park by Chung Sang-moon, a former general affairs secretary to Roh, prosecutors claim. Chung allegedly told Park that Roh instructed him to give Park the number.
