Seoul to Host Math Olympics

The International Congress of Mathematicians, the "Olympics" of mathematicians, will be held in Seoul in 2014.

The Korean Mathematical Society on Sunday said Seoul was the only city recommended by the International Mathematical Union executive committee to host the competition in 2014 in the IMU meeting in Fuzhou, China.

All that remains is approval by the IMU general assembly next year, but there has been no case where the decision by the IMU executive committee was overturned by the general assembly, the KMS said.

The ICM is held every four years, and is the largest international academic conference in natural sciences in the world, inviting some 4,000 mathematicians.
