Police on Monday submitted an extradition request to the Japanese government for the head of the management company of the actress Jang Ja-yeon, who committed suicide last month.
The CEO, identified as Kim, is sought on a warrant issued on April 3 for allegedly coercing Jang to escort influential entertainment and business figures and provide sexual favors.
"If Kim gets arrested in Japan, he will be handed over the Korean authorities within three months at the latest after all the necessary legal procedures by the Japanese prosecutors and court," a Gyeonggi provincial police spokesman said.
Police say they have completed "about 80 percent" of the investigation arising from a list of names left by Jang but declined to elaborate.
