The Color of 2009 is 'Hopeful' Mimosa

A yellow or orange tie will be the "it" item for fashionable gentlemen this spring. Pantone, the company that provides professional color standards for the design industries, chose Mimosa, a warm, engaging yellow, as its color of the year for 2009. The color comes from mimosa flowers and falls somewhere between orange and yellow.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said the mimosa color naturally gives reassurance, hope, and optimism in times of uncertainty. Pantone specifically mentioned the necktie as a must-have mimosa item.

Mint blue will also become popular, partially due to the trend for eco-friendly items, as blue represents water and green the trees. Checkered patterns will continue to be popular from last winter, as well as classical regimental stripes.
