Ida Daussy, the popular French TV personality, in a tearful press conference in Seoul on Monday afternoon announced the end of her 16-year marriage to a Korean. This news comes as a shock to many who have been led to believe the couple were happy.
"We came to this conclusion for reasons that any couple can go through," Daussy said, "We tried to look happy when we were with the children, but we couldn't overcome the problems every time." An acquaintance said cultural difference may have been an issue despite the 16 years the two spent together.
Daussy expressed particular concern about her six-year-old and 10-year-old sons. "I feel sorry for my children since my divorce inevitably became a big issue because I'm a TV personality," she said. "What I fear most at the moment is the attention and prejudice directed at the children."
Daussy said she wants custody of the children as she has been raising them well. "I will try my best to make a fulfilling life for my children. I would like to continue living in Korea because I want the children to see their father often. I want to remain on good terms with him for the children's sake," she said.
Daussy majored in international business at the University of Le Havre in France and first came to Korea for an internship. She met her husband while teaching French at Yonsei University and became a naturalized Korean citizen at the time of her marriage in 1993.
