Daechi-dong is Korea's Foremost Private Education Zone

Recent statistics have proved Daechi-dong's reputation as Korea's foremost private education zone, located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

According to Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on Wednesday, Daechi-dong has 615 private crammers, ranking top among 468 dong districts in Seoul, followed by Mok-dong in Yangcheon-gu with 306, and Junggye-dong in Nowon-gu with 271.

There are 1,025 private crammers in the zone that encompasses Daechi-dong, Mok-dong, and Junggye-dong, comprising 7.2 percent of Seoul's total of 1,025. The type of institute varied by region. Crammers for college entrance exams are concentrated in Daechi-dong, Mok-dong, and Junggye-dong whereas many English-language institutes are located in Yeoksam-dong.

Crammers accounted for 61.4 percent,and 65.3 percent in Daechi-dong and Junggye-dong, respectively, but a mere 12.4 percent in Yeoksam-dong. Instead, language and art institutes take up 25.7 percent and 17.7 percent, respectively, in Yeoksam-dong, often adjacent to busy zones like Gangnam Station.
