It has long been known that model Jang Yoon-ju, 28, is an ardent music fan and has dreamed of becoming a serious musician one day. She has already released two songs for an album that accompanied the book she co-authored with five others in 2005, "CmKm." She also featured on an album by Jung Jae-hyung this spring. Now she has released her first complete solo album, "Dream."

"I feel that while I express myself sensually through modeling, I express myself emotionally through music," said Jang, who has cat-walked in fashion shows worldwide, including Paris and New York, since debuting in 1997. When asked to choose between music and modeling, Jang said, without hesitation, "In that case, I want to do music for a long time."

When she was a third-year student at middle school, Jang suddenly felt like listening to jazz, so she went to a local CD shop. The shop owner recommended her the classic "Getz/Gilberto" by Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto. Since then, she said she has collected over 2,000 CDs of all genres.

Jang said her album was inspired by the sounds created by cellist Jaques Morelenbaum and composer Sakamoto Ryuichi condensed in their Bosa Nova album, "Casa." Jang self-wrote all the songs and lyrics on her album and the arrangements are minimalist, her singing style reserved. She included "Fly Away," already released in 2005 but rearranged the song into slow Bosa Nova with acoustic guitar and cello.

"I wanted to give a coherent tone to the entire album. Some people might find it boring, but I hope they understand," said Jang. She said the album took a long time to produce because she did not want it to be her first and last record -- for herself, as well as those who have longed to hear her musical ability.
