A U.S. court has rejected a request for bail for the former manager of pop singer Baek Ji-young, who fled to the U.S. after spreading a video clip in 2000 that showed him and Baek having sex.
Los Angeles police on Tuesday said Kim Seok-jin was arrested in the Koreatown neighborhood. He had been wanted for two years on suspicion of having sex with minors.
Kim Seok-jin is an alias; the 45-year-old man's real name is Kim Seok-wan. He was also known by the name Kim Si-won in Korea.
He has been wanted by Korean police since 2000 on charges of defamation connected with his production and distribution on the Internet of sex videos.
A Korean music industry executive said, "As far as I know, the government has asked the U.S. Department of Justice to extradite him, so we have to wait and see if he will be brought back home."
Baek has not responded publicly to the news. People close to her said that she may not want her name mentioned in connection with Kim since the sex tape scandal nearly ruined her career, leading to a five-year absence from the limelight from which she only emerged in 2006.
