High-Speed Train to Extend Southwest Route

      August 23, 2006 22:11

The National Assembly has passed a proposal calling for the extension of tracks for the high-speed train KTX. The plan is to extend the southwest or Honam line from Osong to Gwangju by 2015, and from Gwangju to Mokpo by 2017.

The completed route will shorten travel time between Seoul and Mokpo to about an hour and 40 minutes from three hours, and from Osong to Mokpo to one hour. Also in the works is a plan to build an additional stop at Ulsan on the southeast route.

Officials at the Construction and Transportation Ministry say some W10.5 trillion (US$=W956) will be poured into the project.
