Rock singer Maya will sing the national anthem at Tapgol Park, the birthplace of the March 1 Independence Movement. Seoul Entertainment, Maya's agency, said last week the singer would be singing at the Independence Movement Day commemoration ceremony that will take place March 1 at Tapgol Park in Jongno, Seoul.
This is the second time the singer has sung the anthem at an official event. In 2003, she performed at the Liberation Day ceremony. This year's Independence Movement Day ceremony will be conducted at both Ewha Girls' High School's Ryu Gwan-sun Memorial Hall and Tapgol Park simultaneously. Ryu Gwan-sun was a renowned female independence activist.
"I am more nervous and excited about singing the national anthem than I am about singing my own songs," Maya said. She will also perform one of her hit songs, "Azalea."
Maya introduced the world to Korean rock when she was the first Asian ever officially invited to attend the MIDEM international music conference in Cannes, France in January. A Seoul Entertainment official said, "Since her performance at MIDEM, she has been getting offers from recording labels in Asia and Northern Europe... We are holding concrete discussions with a production company about promoting her overseas."
