Korean dramas are in hot demand overseas, further proof that their popularity is not just limited to the domestic audience. According to local media reports, combined revenues from daily dramas produced by the country's three terrestrial networks, KBS, MBC, and SBS rang up US$17.7 million last year, up almost 60 percent from the year before.
Such hit dramas as "All About Eve" and "Winter Sonata" showed that the universal theme of love can go beyond languages and borders to win the hearts of television viewers in China and Southeast Asian countries. Industry experts say the trend comes on the back of improvements in Southeast Asian nations' broadcasting environment, amid an on-going frenzy for Korean pop in the region.
