Gimpo to Be Reborn as Sky City in December

Gimpo Airport is to be reborn as a shopping Mecca according to the Korea Airports Corporation, Sunday, which said the renovated airport will feature theaters, an electronics market, banquet hall, and discount mart, which are scheduled to open simultaneously in December.

The construction began in August last year through the Gimpo Airport General Development Plan as a means to make use of the space when the airport was left desolate after international flights were transferred to Incheon. The name of the airport will be Sky City and entrepreneurs were recruited and selected early this month.

Sky City, which will open in December, will feature ¡®Techno Airport Mall¡¯, an electronics mall with 700 or so middle and small-sized shops; ¡®M Park¡¯, a multiplex cinema with 9 theaters and 1,830 seats; ¡®Sky City Convention Center¡¯, a banquet/wedding hall with 2,500 seats, and Shinsegae E-mart, a three-story discount mart covering 35,225 square meters.
The empty lot in front of the former international flight terminal will be used to build a hotel and theme park. Entrepreneur enlistment will be complete by December.
