      August 14, 2002 15:43

Prime Minister-designate Chang Dae-whan reported his private assets, Wednesday, worth more than W5.6 billion, about US$4.7 million. The total, which includes his own as well as the registered assets belonging to his wife, father, and two children, makes Chang the wealthiest member of the cabinet, even wealthier than the president.

The former head of a major economic daily was required to hand in an official document specifying his personal wealth to the National Assembly, ahead of a two-day confirmation hearing that begins next Monday, which will be followed by a floor vote on August 28. His appointment needs to be endorsed by the National Assembly.
