Korea's oldest married couple Lee Hoon-yo, 91, and Kim Bong-geum, 95, living in Cheongwon, Chungbuk Province celebrated their 82nd wedding anniversary Thursday when Gwon Young-sang, a co-representative of the Married Couples' Day Committee conferred an exceptionally long-lived prize on Lee and Kim at a festive event in the house of their first son Lee Seok-gyu, aged 75.
The country's oldest couple was also given special gifts, 182 rose flowers and hearing aids.
"The 82 year-old marriage is amazingly a record breaking one globally," said Gwon, noting that he will be working on research to list this case in the Guinness Book of Records.
Lee and his wife have 105 grandsons and granddaughters from their five sons and three daughters, and still run an herbal medicine shop and enjoy life. In spite of being over 90 Lee enjoys reading a newspaper without glasses, riding bus for himself, and touring downtown Cheongju.
