Jeju Museum Opens Friday




Jeju National Museum will open on June 15 following nearly eight and a half years of construction it was announced Thursday. The museum is located 4.9km away from the Jeju International Airport and has six permanent exhibition halls, one special one and an outdoor exhibition center as well as lecture halls with simultaneous interpretation equipment, seminar rooms and archive rooms.


It will display some 950 pieces of antiques and artifacts out of 7,231 pieces in its possession. The museum is designed in a way that underscores Jeju culture as the fruit of sea exchanges and the center of exchanges in East Asia. It is open from 9:00am to 6:00pm, from Tuesday to Sunday. Admission for adults is W400 and free for those under 19.


Museum Director Jo Hyeon-jong, said that the facility will make efforts to emerge as the Mecca of research on island cultures through systematic studies of the sea and islands.
