Jeonju to Host Offbeat Film Fest

      The Jeonju International Film Festival will be held from April 27 to May 3. The festival was first launched last year with the goal of promoting alternative films, which a foucs on Asia.

      The opening film of JIFF 2001 is "Waikiki Brothers" by a Korean director, Lim Soon-rye. A total of 200 films from over 30 nations will participate in the festival. The main program in JIFF 2001 are Cinemascape and the Asia Indie Cine-Forum.

      The Cinemascape will show various hit films such as "Beijing Bicycle" from China, and "Betelnut Beauty" from Taiwan.

      The Asian Indie Cine-Forum will screen "Dead or Alive" by Dakasi Miike. Film fans can also enjoy Section 2001, which features cutting edge works.

      In the Documentary Biennale, awarding-winning documentaries from all over the world will be shown such as the "Sunrise over Tiananmen Square" and "Hybrid." In addition, various special programs are scheduled.
