Japanese Emperor to See Opera <i>"Hwang Jini"</i>

    The Japanese Imperial Household announced Thursday that the Emperor and Empress of Japan will attend the Korean opera "Hwang Jini," which will be presented at the New National Theater in Tokyo on April 16. The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Japan said the event was prepared as part of efforts to commemorate the co-hosting of the 2002 World Cup, and create a favorable atmosphere for the success of the games. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kono Yohei and Minister of Culture, Sasaki Masamine are also expected to attend the performance. The KCC added this is the first time for the Emperor and the Empress to attend a Korean performance.
