Actress Continues Support of Orphanage

Television actress Jeong Ae-ri, 40, started supporting an orphanage Seongnowon in Noryangjin, Seoul 12 years ago when she first visited the place to shoot a television soap opera. She was to play the role of a woman who was searching all the orphanages in Korea looking for a child she had lost. Jeong said when she first saw the children she felt they were crying out "Please come again!" and that she could not brush off their little faces from her mind for a whole week. Therefore, Jeong returned to Seongnowon and started giving a monthly donation. Since then whenever she had some free time, she made food the children liked, like pancakes, and taken it to the orphanage.

Jeong had been married for 3 years then, and it was 5 years before she had her daughter, 7-year-old Ji-hyeon. So it is no wonder her husband had to ask whether she had to really sacrifice so much of her time when she was only in her 20's and suddenly become a mother for more than 70 children. The actress persuaded her husband saying "How could I do something that I can't do even now when I am older?"

When she is too busy to go and play with the children, Jeong picks up the phone and asks vice principal Jeon Ok-ja, 54, how the little ones are doing. Jeon said she is not surprised that such a famous actress comes to the orphanage and admires Jeong's passion and care for the children, visiting them at least twice a week.
