Historical epic "12.12 : The Day" has drawn more than 5 million viewers in the two weeks since its release and expectations are high that it will become the next Korean film to draw more than 10 million. The film, which follows the dramatic events of the 1979 coup that brought military dictator Chun Doo-hwan to power after the assassination of strongman Park Chung-hee, hit the milestone on Tuesday. It has topped the box office since the release on Nov. 22, with more than 1 million viewers in the first four days, 2 million in six days, 3 million in 10 days and 4 million in 12 days. That makes it the second fastest film to achieve the feat this year after "The Roundup: No Way Out," the only Korean film to cross the 10-million-viewer mark so far this year. It reached the 5 million mark four days faster than "Masquerade" (2012) and a day faster than "Ode to My Father" (2014)."Masquerade" currently ranks 15th in all-time box office hits among Korean films with 12.32 million viewers and "Ode to My Family" fourth with 14.26 million.
