Singer Eric Nam was among the recipients of TIME magazine's Impact Awards earlier this week.The second annual TIME100 Impact Awards were held in Singapore on Sunday. The awards recognize individuals who have worked outside their fields to make a better society.The five recipients were Nam, actor Ayushmann Khurrana (India), actor Ke Huy Quan (Vietnam), environmental activist Elizabeth Wathuti (Kenya) and women's rights activist Zainab Salbi (Iraq).Nam has taken a keen interest in mental health issues and advocated for greater openness around them. With his brothers he created a platform called Mindset, which focuses on addressing mental health issues."It has been a distinct honor and pleasure to be here accepting this prestigious award alongside, and in the footsteps of, some of the most impactful, incredible, inspiring humans on this planet," Nam said in his acceptance speech. "I am receiving a TIME100 Impact Award... for being open and honest about something that I believe we can all be open and honest about: our mental health." He added, "we must continue to work together and improve and normalize our approaches to dealing with mental health."Nam made his debut as a singer in 2011 on MBC TV's audition program.
