Police are looking into allegations of sexual misconduct against 31 public figures as the "Me Too" movement sweeps patriarchal Korea, the National Police Agency said Wednesday.

Charges have already been brought against five suspects including playwright and director Lee Youn-taek and actor Jo Min-ki, who stepped down from his university teaching post.

Police on Wednesday held a nationwide video conference to discuss further actions on sexual abuse cases amid a tidal wave of tip-offs.

They decided to hold alleged sexual offenders in custody for questioning if charges are serious.
