U.S. President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka will attend the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang on Feb. 25.

CNN quoted White House officials on Tuesday as saying Ivanka is coming at the request of the U.S. International Olympic Committee and the president.

Trump repeatedly promised President Moon Jae-in that a member of his clan will attend.

Ivanka Trump tweeted on Jan. 29, "Getting ready for the upcoming Winter Olympics."

She was also supposed to accompany her father during his visit to Korea in November last year, but due to scheduling conflicts, she only visited Japan.

"We have not been officially informed by the U.S. but expect it to make the announcement at a suitable time," a Foreign Ministry spokesman here said.

The government is also trying to persuade Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the closing ceremony. Beijing is minded to send someone of lower rank but is the host of the next Winter Olympics, so that could change.
