Organizers Offer Preview of Olympics Award Ceremonies

The organizing committee of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang gave reporters a preview of the award ceremonies on Wednesday.

The design of the podium reflects the shape of a traditional Korean tiled roof, and the main color will be white.

Medalists will be given a mascot doll wearing an eosahwa, a hat with paper flowers presented to the top candidate in the civil service exam during the Chosun Dynasty.

A white tiger doll called Soohorang will be presented to Olympic medalists and a black Asiatic bear doll named Bandabi to Paralympics medalists. They will also be given a plaque embossed with a model of the mountains of Pyeongchang.

The ceremony girls will wear a uniform inspired by hanbok or Korean traditional dress with snowflake patterns and the blue and red of the Korean national flag.

There will be a total of 103 medal ceremonies at the Olympics and 80 at the Paralympics. Along with medal presentation ceremonies, various concerts and cultural events will take place every night.
