NCsoft and Kakao posted all-time high quarterly profits in the third quarter of this year.
Online game maker NCsoft said on Thursday its sales in the July-September period totaled W727.3 billion and operating profit came to W327.8 billion (US$1=W1,118). Its sales doubled and operating profit quadrupled on-year thanks to its mobile game "Lineage M," which was released in late June.
Its cumulative sales through September reached W1.23 trillion, making this the first year the 20-year-old company's sales have exceeded W1 trillion. NCsoft is the third game developer in Korea to achieve the milestone, following Nexon and Netmarble Games.
Internet giant Kakao posted W514.5 billion in sales and W47.4 billion in operating profit in the third quarter. Its sales rose 31.7 percent while operating profit jumped 56.6 percent on-year.
Its messaging app KakaoTalk boosted ad sales by about 20 percent on-year, aggressive marketing overseas lifted game sales by nearly 20 percent.
