Record 36 S.Korean Athletes to Compete in Paralympics
South Korea will send a record 36 athletes to compete in five sports during the Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang starting March 9.
Men's ice hockey has the biggest contingent with 17 entrants, followed by six in para Nordic skiing, five in wheelchair curling, four in alpine skiing and four in snowboarding.
The athletes aim to beat the country's record of two silver medals by winning one gold, one silver and two bronze medals this year. Sin Eui-hyun is considered a strong contender for the gold in para Nordic skiing.
This will also be the first Winter Paralympics for North Korea. Nordic skiers Ma Yu-chol and Kim Jong-hyon have been granted wild-card status by the International Paralympic Committee.
The two Korean teams will march together in the opening ceremony under the unification flag.
