Lee Sang-hwa proved she is still the top speed skater on Tuesday, as she won the women's 500-m event at the national trials for the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo.

She finished the race with a time of 38.64 seconds to secure a spot for the Asian Games. Runner-up Kim Min-sun who clocked 39.37 seconds, also secured a spot.

Earlier, there were concerns about Lee's condition among her fans as she wrapped up the ISU World Cup series early, skipping the remaining two events.

Lee, who is aiming for her third Olympic gold medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, plans to compete only in the 500-m race and skip the 1,000 m at the Asian Games to focus on the Olympics.

In the men's 500-m race, Cha Min-kyu and Mo Tae-bum finished first and second to earn spots for the Asian Games.
