3-4 People Die in N.Korean Labor Camps Every Day
Forced abortion, torture and forced labor are routine in labor camps in North Korea, and an estimated three or four inmates die every day, the Korea Institute for National Unification here said Monday.
In a labor camp in Kaechon, South Pyongan Province where mostly felons are incarcerated, three or four of the 3,000 to 4,000 inmates die every day as a result of forced labor, malnutrition, beating, and torture, according to the report.
They are cremated or buried in mass graves, and their families are notified only after their prison term ends.
The situation is no better a camp in Hoeryong, North Hamgyong Province, where many defectors who were caught are incarcerated.
If women are pregnant after being sent back from China, guards induce miscarriages with beatings or injections because the regressive regime believes that children fathered by Chinese men taint the national bloodline.
Every province has camps of this kind.
