Number of Centenarians Keeps Growing
The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on Tuesday that 200 men and 1,064 women in the country reached the age of 100 this year.
The number of centenarians has been on a steadily climbing trajectory, from 884 in 2009 to 927 in 2011 and now 1,264.
According to the Ministry of Security and Public Administration, the cumulative number of those aged 100 or over reached 13,413 -- 3,108 men and 10,305 women -- as of August.
Most cited light meals, regular exercise and optimistic characteristics as the chief reasons for their longevity, the report said.
