7 N.Korean Defectors Arrested in China
China has tightened controls against North Korean defectors again as Beijing and Pyongyang cozy up closer.
At least seven defectors were arrested by Chinese police in the few days ahead of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's visit to China on Monday. All face deportation.
Three teenage girls were arrested at Shenyang railway station last Saturday, an activist here working for human rights in North Korea said Thursday. Locals reported them to police when they were waiting for a train.
There are even rewards out for turning in defectors. On Sunday, four including a child were caught in Kunming on the way to the Lao border by train.
Meanwhile, a video clip released by Radio Free Asia shows a female defector being shot dead by a North Korean border guard as she tries to cross the Apnok River in Hyesan, Ryanggang Province.
The clip shows her lying down on the ice with another woman, apparently her mother, wailing beside the body. RFA said the two were attempting to flee across the river in broad daylight through a hail of bullets.
