Basic Functions

1.Basic Search |
|
To search for Chosun Ilbo articles, type in several key words and simply click the search button. By default, Chosun Search automatically returns pages that include all of your search terms.
For example, to look up articles containing "US" and "War", simply type: "US" and "War" and click search

2. Natural Language Search |
|
By default, Chosun Search supports natural language search.
For example, typing "Fastest Pitcher in the Major League" will return results related to the sentence.

Search Results
|
|
1. Sorting |
|
To sort the results that Chosun Search returns, click the sorting method that suits your purpose.
|
|
 
|
|
|
|
2. Page Navigation |
|
When many results are returned and on multiple pages, users can browse those pages as follows:
Click "<<" to move to the first page
Click "<" to skip to the previous ten pages
Click ">" to skip to the next ten pages
Click ">>" to move to the last page
Click the page number in "1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10" of interest. Only black numbers are available.

Basic Search
|

1. Search Keyword |
|
Type in words, phrases or sentences and click the search button to read the most relevant article.
For example, to search documents containing both "US" and "North Korea": "US" and "North Korea" and click search

|
|
|
2. Restricting Search Results |
|
Check "Title or Content" to search for keyword matches in headlines or contents of a document.
"Title Only" will show keyword matches in the title; "Content Only" will show matches in the content.
"Title and Content" will show results that match both the title and content of a document.

|
|
|
|
3. Search Period |
|
Chosun Search will show articles that were published during a designated period.
|
|
 
|
|
|
|
4.Sorting |
|
Users can sort the list of results to fit their convenience.
|
|
 
|
|
|
|
5.Search Field |
|
Check appropriate box or boxes to search a specific section, or sections.
Check "Select All" to search from the all sections.
|
|
 
|
|
|
|
6.Search Within Results |
|
Users can search within results. To search "Diplomacy" within the list of returned results from a "US" and "North Korea" search, check the "Search Within Results" box and type in "Diplomacy".

|
|
Advanced Search
|
|
1. Include all terms (AND Query) |
|
Chosun Search will return documents, which include all keywords. If one term generates too many results, users can narrow down the search by typing multiple terms.

To search documents which include both "Korea" and "Japan": type "Korea" and "Japan" and click search.

|
|
2.Include all terms in an exact match (Phrase Search) |
|
Chosun Search will return articles that include exact terms or phrases that the user has typed in.
To search documents which include "Interest Rate" and exactly match "Government measures for stabilizing stock market": type "Interest Rate" and "Government measures for stabilizing stock market" and click search

|
3.Include any of the terms (OR Query) |
|
Chosun Search will return documents that include at least one of the key words.

To search documents which include "Monitor" and "Computer": type "Monitor" and "Computer" and click search.

|
|
|
|
4.Include all terms in exact order (NEAR Query) |
|
Chosun Search will return documents that include all terms that are placed in order and have less than 21 words between each term.
< Search Example >
To search documents within results from "Major League" that include "Park Chan-ho" and "Baseball" placed with less than 21 words between them: type "Major League", "Park Chan-ho" and "Baseball" and click search.

5. Include all terms regardless of the order (NEAR Query) |
|
Chosun Search will return documents that include all terms that are placed in order and have less than 21 words between each term.

To search documents which include "Kim Byung-hyun", "Nomo" and "Park Chan-ho" regardless of order: type "Kim Byung-hyun", "Nomo" and "Park Chan-ho" and click search.

6. Exclusion of Keyword (NOT Query) |
|
Chosun Search will return documents that do not include the key words.

To search documents "Kim Byung-hyun" which do not include "Park Chan-ho": type "Kim Byun-hyun" and click search.
