Jang Guk-hyon's Profile
Although it was a bit exaggerated, I would like to introduce myself as described in an interview article in ¡°Monthly Mountain,¡± the 30-year-old magazine dedicated to mountains published by the Chosun Ilbo.
The photography works of a Buddhist devotee named Jang, whose pen name is Seolam, is apparently beautiful. However, the works convey a mystic force that leaves the viewer with the impression that the artist had a spiritual revelation.
Looking at the picture of Mount Baekdu and Halla, in particular, makes viewers forget about themselves all of a sudden due to the pervasive feelings of the mountain spirits surrounding one's body. That¡¯s amazingly mysterious. Whose works can you say engender such glowing praise?
The writer is, surprisingly, a Buddhist priest named Chul Wung, who received the teachings from Seo-ong, the former head of the Chogye Order who is famous for having attained a deep level of understanding.
