'A Day in the Life of Female Soldiers'
Some 500 female patriots volunteered for the battlefield in September 1950, when the fate of the nation was like a candle before the wind. Filled with courage, the role of a female soldier has become a special profession among young ladies today. Each year one in twenty female student applicants become members of the military by entering Female Soldier Training School, or the Military, Naval or Air Force academies.
Photographer Choe Jin-yeon produced the first ever story about the life of female soldiers. Before working for the New York Times, Choe won the Grand Prix at the Korea Photo Exhibition. For the last five years, he has taken 2,000 pictures, which reflect life for women in the military from the first day to life on base and severe training sessions.
