Profile of Choi Jin-yeon
Photographer Choi Jin-yeon started his career as a photojournalist for a monthly student magazine in 1980, and is currently working for News Times, after spending several years at Korea Life. Having received the Grand Prix at the National Photography Exhibition with "Bburi," or Roots, in 1987, Choi's camera has been focused on historical remains around the nation, mainly fortresses, taking videos and some 30,000 slide shots, over the last twenty years.
Four exhibitions with an ongoing theme of old castles publicize the military remains worldwide. In addition, Choi hosted "24 Hours with the Korean Women's Army Corps - A Day in the Life of Women Soldiers." at the Kodak Photo Salon, Tokyo, Japan in June 2000, an exhibition summarizing five-years of research, which was specially featured in Asahi Shimbun. The "24 Hours of Korean Women's Army Corps - A Day in the Life of Women Soldiers." collection was invited to the Korea War 50 Years Anniversary Exhibition, hosted by the Chosun Ilbo, and displayed for three months. Choi has held seven solo and 30 group exhibitions throughout his career.
Working on documentaries depicting the country, Choi publishes photos and writings serially in monthly magazines and company journals, and his photography collections includes "Impression of America," "Korean Fortresses," "Traditional Scientific Architecture," and "A Day in the Life of Women Soldiers."
