Forty technologies were designated core technologies of national interest, including the technology of designing, processing, assembling and inspecting 70-nanometer or smaller NAND flash, the technology of designing a vehicle fuel cell system, the technology of manufacturing FINEX steel mill facilities and the technology of manufacturing cargo tanks for LNG carriers.

The technologies were confirmed in the first committee for the protection of national industrial technologies, presided over by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo at the government complex in Sejongro on Tuesday. The committee also confirmed the guidelines to protect national industrial technologies.
The committee is the nation's top decision-making body on preventing industrial technologies from leaking, charged with creating protective policies for them. It's comprised of 23 members including the Prime Minister, 17 government officials including ministers and six commissioners from the private sector.
The core technologies were determined according to surveys from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Information and Communication and the Ministry of Construction and Transportation, as well as through meetings with businesses, research institutions and academics.
By category, four technologies were selected from electronics and electrical engineering, eight from the automobile industry, six from the steel industry, seven from shipbuilding, four from nuclear power generation, six from information and telecommunications and four from the space industry.
